Charlotte CLT car rental rules: age, debit, deposit and pickup

Charlotte’s rental counters are in the Level 2 lobby of the Hourly Deck in front of the terminal. The airport’s current pickup route uses the Lower Level Walkway.

1. From Arrivals/Baggage Claim, take an escalator or elevator to the Lower Level Walkway.
2. Continue through the walkway and take the elevator to the Level 2 lobby.
3. Find the counter of the rental company named on your reservation.

• “Rental Car Facility – Follow directional signage along Airport roadways toward the Hourly Deck.”

• “Drive past the Hourly Deck entrance on your left and take the next entrance immediately to your left directing you toward Rental Car Returns.”

• “Once the process of returning your car is complete, use the elevators on the south side of the Deck and proceed to Level 5 to the Bridge or Level 1 to the Lower Level Walkway.”

  North Carolina alternate highway use tax on short-term rentals: 8% of the rental (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 105-187.5).

  Applies to vehicles for which the rental company elected the alternate tax when titling them; the official sources do not say every company makes that election.
