Can You Rent a Car Without a Credit Card? Debit-Card Pickup Rules

You may be able to rent without a credit card when the exact supplier branch accepts a qualifying debit card for your age, vehicle, itinerary and documents. That is a conditional pickup route, not a guarantee. Prepaid cards, virtual cards, mobile wallets and cash follow different rules and must not be treated as debit-card substitutes.

A booking screen can accept payment while the counter still rejects the pickup card. Verify the operating branch, main renter's name, physical card, available funds, return itinerary, vehicle class and additional-driver rules together.

Enterprise's Orlando International Airport branch 07V1 says the renter may use a major debit card in their own name. At this airport branch, debit is accepted at the time of rental only with a ticketed return travel itinerary. The licence name and address must match the renter's current home address, subject to the branch's stated active-duty military exception.

A debit-secured rental limits additional drivers to the renter's spouse or domestic partner. Vehicle-class, insurance-verification and deposit conditions still apply, so do not generalize this MCO answer to another Enterprise branch.

Alamo's Boston Logan branch 10Y3 also accepts debit at pickup only with a ticketed return travel itinerary. The debit card must be in the renter's name, the licence address must match the current home address, and only a spouse or domestic partner may be an additional driver on a debit-secured rental.

The same branch publishes a US$300 no-itinerary deposit, or US$850 for named premium and specialty classes, but it separately says debit cards require the ticketed return itinerary. Those no-itinerary amounts do not make an otherwise ineligible debit pickup eligible. Prepaid cards may be used only for final amounts after return; cash is not accepted.

SIXT's current U.S. guidance says most locations accept debit, but airport pickup requires a return flight, train or bus ticket in the renter's name that matches the rental return date and was booked at least 24 hours before pickup. Sports, luxury and some higher vehicle categories remain excluded for debit.

SIXT requires a physical credit or debit card in the main driver's name at pickup. It lists prepaid cards, virtual credit or debit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay virtual-card use, cash at pickup and cards in another person's name as not accepted for this U.S. pickup route. Deposit amount remains location- and vehicle-dependent.

The label 'no credit card' is too broad for an eligibility answer. Keep the method and rental stage explicit.

• Prepaid or gift card: may be allowed only for the final balance after return, not for pickup authorization or the deposit.
• Virtual card or mobile wallet: online payment does not replace a branch's physical-card requirement.
• Cash: pay-at-counter wording does not prove cash qualification; many airport branches do not accept cash at pickup.
• Someone else's card: a separate booker or payer does not move the main-renter identity and pickup obligations.

Run the exact-trip checker, open the supplier/airport evidence and preserve Unknown or Conflict when a required field is not published consistently. Recheck the official branch terms close to pickup because supplier pages, franchise practices and rate conditions can change.

Even a fully matching checklist cannot guarantee vehicle release. The counter still verifies the physical documents, card authorization, identity and applicable rental agreement.
